John Thomas was born in Powathil house, Kaviyoor , Kerala, India to the late Pothen and Aleyamma Yohannan on March 14th, 1942. He completed his education in Kerala and moved to Madras for employment. While in Madras, he owned a printing press which he used to spread the gospel for the Lord. In 1972, he married his beloved wife Annamma Thomas. At the end of that year he came to the US to attend Pittsburg Bible Institute to further his studies in theology.

After he graduated, he went back to India to continue the Lord’s work. While he was doing this, he was also taking care of his elderly parents. In 1991, he immigrated to the US with his family to join his siblings in Chicago. He and his wife later welcomed a daughter named Alice.

He worked at Garrett-Evangelical Theological Seminary since arriving in Chicago and retired in 2006. In 2019, he moved to Dallas to live closer to his siblings and extended family.  He is survived by his wife Annamma and daughter Alice.  He was a caring husband and a compassionate father. Family was always very important to him. He would spend hours talking to family near and far.

He is rejoicing in heaven with his parents and his siblings, Kunjamma Philip, Rev. P.Y Philipose, and Mariamma George. He is survived by his devoted wife Annamma Thomas and daughter Alice Thomas. As well as his beloved siblings: Thankamma Varughese, Ammini Jacob, Valsamma Eapen and Pastor Abraham John. He also leaves behind numerous nieces and nephews that he loved.
