Listen to Obituary

Juanice Holman Simmons went to sleep peacefully and awoke in heaven on November 16, 2025, where she is now with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Juanice was born at home in Daugherty, Texas on July 20, 1936. She was the eighth and youngest child to Guy and Balmy Holman. Her given name was Luna Juanice Holman, but she quickly dropped "Luna" and became known as Juanice.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Guy and Balmy Holman; siblings, Mildred Emma Martin, Arlie Marion Holman, Ernest Bedford Holman, Myra Estelle Potts, Della Bernice Gray, Cordie June Hubble, and Hilma Christine Rayshell; former husband, Jimmy Don Hasley; son, Guy Sam Hasley; husband, Robert George Simmons; and grandson, Adam Scott Hasley.

Juanice is survived by her daughters, Paula June Leimer, Ellen Marie Sampsel and husband John; son, David Clyde Hasley and wife Katrina; grandchildren, Sarah Hasley, Kristin Wren Ingram, Jared and Justin Leimer, Zachary, Jonathan and Christopher Harris, Bryan and John David Hasley, Leah Douthit and Laura Beth Teel; step-daughters, Susan Priddy and husband Richard, Dian Dixon and husband Doug; step-grandchildren, Michelle Schupbach, Brandon, Joseph and Truitt Priddy, Aaron and Andy Dixon; and many beloved great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and wonderful friends and neighbors.

Growing up in the country, Juanice described running, skipping and hopping to school. She loved climbing trees and wandering in the open land and somehow earned the nickname "Booger." She graduated from Emory High School in 1954, where she was a star on the basketball team and even traveled to the state playoffs. After graduation, she joined her sister, June, in the big city of Dallas to find a job and soon met Jimmy Don Hasley, to whom she was married shortly after. They had four children and Juanice worked as a stay-at-home mom for 20 years. Later, she went to work at Sears as a clerk in the catalog ordering department and retired after 23 years.

Juanice developed many interests through the years, she loved playing the guitar, singing, yodeling, square dancing, painting, ceramics, sketching, growing flowers, watching birds and she loved to travel. Juanice was known for her contagious smile and quick wit wherever she went. She was a jolly person, always offering encouragement to others. She was very involved at Mimosa Lane Baptist Church where she made life-long friends in her Agape Sunday school class. She also enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years.

In 1998, she met and married Robert "Bobby" Simmons. They led an adventurous life, traveling to many countries around the world. They were avid cruise-goers and great companions. They also enjoyed sharing in each other's extended families.

Later, she developed friendships at her new home, Bradfield Terrace assisted living. Juanice was well-known among the residents and staff for her yodeling, singing and artistic flair. Many times, she was the life of the party as well as the Bingo champ!

Through it all, Juanice loved being with family more than anything else. She cherished those times with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and time with extended family at reunions and holidays. Juanice was a prayer warrior, praying fervently for her children and their families, for the grandchildren even before they were born, and for their future spouses. She wanted all her loved ones to come to know the Lord and his goodness as she did. She is enjoying that right now in heaven.

Juanice will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
