Larry Boyd Taylor, Sr. died peacefully the evening of August 2, 2026 at his home in Mesquite, TX, the day before his 79th birthday. Larry was born on August 3, 1947 in Temple, TX to his loving mother, Velma Taylor.
Larry grew up in Bellmead, TX with his mother and his brother, Ronald "Ronnie" Taylor, who died tragically at the age of 19. He attended Baylor University and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism. Shortly after, he married Ethel "Ratha" Taylor and they were married for over 56 years. His career in journalism after college brought him to the Dallas/Fort Worth area where he briefly worked for the Fort Worth Press before switching career paths to work for Ben E. Keith, then moving onto the Dallas Times Herald as a district manager before finally settling in at the United States Postal Service as a mail handler, ultimately retiring after over 20 years of service.
Larry is survived by his wife, Ethel "Ratha" Taylor; 3 children and their spouses, Miranda & Scott Lala, Monica & Kelly Duncan, Larry & Jolene Taylor, Jr.; 13 grandchildren, and 9 great- grandchildren. He was a dedicated member of New Liberty Baptist Church in Garland, TX and served in every way he could. The legacy he leaves behind is how much he tried to reflect Christ, impact lives, and show compassion. He loved his wife and family dearly, was a hard worker, and a man of integrity. He was faithful to his LORD and Savior, Jesus Christ, to his wife and family, to his church, and to his country. He tried to lead others to Jesus in every moment of every day. He was a good friend, neighbor, and citizen. He was saved by God's grace, a good student of God's Word, and shared His Good News with everyone.
His humility and love will go on impacting lives for many years.
