Lucy Waldroup, lovingly known as Mom, Granny Lucy or Miss Lucy, passed away on December 28 at the age of 88. A longtime resident of Dallas, Lucy was truly one of a kind.
Born and raised in North Carolina, Lucy was the beloved daughter of Frank and Frankie McClure and grew up alongside her brother and sister. In 1955, she married the love of her life, and together they moved to Texas, beginning a beautiful journey that lasted 60 devoted years. Lucy often joked that her husband was the stubborn one-though anyone who knew her well knows she may have been the truly stubborn one all along. She now joins him in heaven, surely still having the last word.
Lucy loved sewing, cooking, and tending to her garden, and she spent many years babysitting-caring for others came naturally to her. She never met a stranger and could talk for hours on the phone, making everyone she spoke with feel like family. Her warmth, laughter, and stories filled every room (and every phone call).
Lucy was a regular at Kohl's, shopping there weekly, and it's safe to say the store will feel the loss almost as much as her loved ones do. Her joy for life, love for people, and unmistakable spirit will be deeply missed.
She leaves behind a legacy of love through her daughter and son along with 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, along with many others who loved her dearly and will forever remember her kindness, humor, big heart and ability to never run out of things to say.
