Luke Thomas Adams, Sr. - Born in Greenville, Texas on February 3, 1942 - Spent most of his youth and adult years in the Dallas area Education: Grades 1 - 6 Grand Prairie and Pleasant Grove Grades 7 - 9 Connor Middle School Grades 10 - 12 W.W. Samuel High School Attended Arlington State College (now University of Texas at Arlington) for 5 years High School sports: - Three year letterman at Samuel in football, baseball and track - Guard on Samuel's 1959 Dallas City Football Championship team - Selected as a Guard to the 1959 Dallas All-City Football Team - Played Guard for Dallas in the 1959 Dallas-Ft. Worth Football All-Star game - Played Catcher on the Samuel baseball team and threw the Shot Put for the Track team College sports: - Attended Arlington State University for five years on a full Football scholarship Work History: 1959-67 Assistant Golf Professional at Mesquite Municipal Golf Course 1968-76 Golf Professional/Club Manager at Hurricane Creek Golf Course 1977-78 Golf Professional and Co-owner of Webb Hill Country Club 1979-80 Owner of Greenville Gold, Silver and Jewelry, Greenville, Tx 1980-presentOwner of Broadway Gold, Silver and Jewelry, Garland, Tx Class "AAA" member of the PGA Charitable Pursuits: - Served as member of the Wolfe City, TX School Board - Little League baseball coach, Greenville, TX - Past President of Eastern Hills Country Club in Garland, TX - Served as Vice-President of the Gerald Walker Scholarship Association in Garland, TX and has been an active member for 13 years Personal Attributes: - Outstanding athlete known for his love of sports - Love for his wife and family - Abundance of friends - Humorous stories for any situation - Gift for making everyone in his presence feel good - Happy face and twinkling eyes - Described by many as a "problem solver". Many looked to him for assistance and always found him there when needed. - Luke truly enjoyed life to the fullest and always did a good job of mixing business with pleasure. Special gratitude goes out to Luke's friends from his school years, many of whom he was in regular contact with; his golfing and "lunch" friends, his country club friends, police department friends, Southwest Airlines family, neighbors and community friends. Pallbearers:Donny Anderson, Bill Gurley, Joe Harn, Benny Harper, Doug Martin, Lloyd Pate, Doug Scott, Jim Bob Smith The family requests memorials be sent to the Gerald Walker Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1925 Shari Ln, Garland, Tx 75043.This fund provides scholarships to 6 graduating seniors every year in honor of the Garland City Police officers killed in the line of duty. Luke was dedicated to this worthy cause. Survived by: -wife, Carole Adams of Garland -son, Luke Thomas Adams, Jr. of Los Angeles, CA -daughter, Angela Adams of Garland -step-children, Jim & Sharon Guthrie of Lindale, TX, Glen & Katie Guthrie of The Woodlands, TX -grandchildren, Adam Smith, James Guthrie, Noah Guthrie & Brooke Guthrie -mother, Aubrey Adams of Mesquite -brother, Mike Adams of Mesquite -several nieces and nephews -Services will be held 2:00PM Wednesday, January 29, 2003, at the Eastridge Park Christian Church, 2701 Town East Blvd., Mesquite, TX with Rev. Dan Carroll, officiating. -Interment will be in Grove Hill Memorial Park. -Family will receive friends at the funeral home Tuesday evening from 6:00PM - 8:00PM. Passed due to complications following heart bypass surgery performed on January 14, 2003. Luke would have changed W.C. Fields quote to "I'd rather be in Las Vegas."
