Listen to Obituary

Lula Mae Sadler was born November 23, 1930 in Linden, TX to George and Dollie Lovelady. She passed away on May 24, 2025, at the age of 94. She was preceded in death by her loving husband, Bill Sadler, and her firstborn son, Bill Sadler Jr., as well as her mother, father, and six of her siblings.

Being the second oldest female sibling out of eight children, and having lost their own mother early in life, Lula naturally and quickly embraced the role of caretaker, helping to raise the other children at the young age of fourteen. She did this in addition to helping with the other chores and responsibilities of the house over the next six years.

Just shy of 20 years old, Lula married the love of her life, Bill Sadler. They raised 3 beautiful children and enjoyed seventy-one years of marriage to one another until the Lord called Bill home in June of 2021. They leave their loved ones behind with sweet memories of their adoration for one another, still holding hands and kissing one another even 70 plus years later!

Lula LOVED family and family events. She and Bill hosted family reunions for the Hill family for many years, and there was not much she enjoyed more than getting everyone together, taking family photos, documenting dates and keeping records. What a gift to all of those she leaves behind!

Lula also loved kids, especially babies! Perhaps this was because she naturally became a mother figure so early in life. She kept children for many years supplementing family income, but mostly did it because she simply loved kids. One of her grandkid's favorite memories with her was her "find the thimble" game she always played with them.

Lula also enjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing cards, hosting garage sales, traveling, collecting magnets and shot glasses from all the places they visited. She loved music and often entertained in the home, having neighbors and church friends over for games (mostly dominoes) and would stack the stereo up with music while she entertained. She loved country and western music and was a fan of the stars of her time including George Jones, Merle Haggard, Tammy Wynette and Loretta Lynn.

She also loved gospel music and as she got older, she and Bill would spend many weekends in Arkansas attending music events that were held there. They became friends with a preacher that sang and had family music events at their home.

Lula loved the Lord and attended their church faithfully until health prevented them. She served as Sunday School Director for elementary kids and served in the church, as well as in her community. She would keep her hands busy, often donating her crochet blankets to local nursing homes for people to have something comforting to hold on to.

In her last years, living in the nursing home herself, Lula thrived on visits from family, playing Bingo to win prizes, and especially enjoyed surprise ice cream treats with her grandkids. She loved her sweets! She also greatly enjoyed her weekly visits with her son, Randy, and others who cared for her and Bill in their final years. Even when she couldn't recognize them anymore, we know she felt the love and warmth they provided faithfully.

Lula is Survived by her son, Randy Sadler and his wife Jan; her daughter, Pamela Taylor; sister, Brenda Sue Thomas; granddaughter, Kristy Morrow and husband Dusty; grandson, Jeremy Sadler and wife Amanda; granddaughter, Amber McKinney and husband Scott; granddaughter, Misty Perez and husband Danny; granddaughter, Jennifer West and husband Byron; granddaughter, Stephanie Rector and husband Nathan; and granddaughter, Cynthia Taylor. Lula is also survived by 18 great-grandchildren including spouses, and 10 great-great-grandchildren.

Because of the hope of Heaven, and the assurance that Lula is there in the presence of her Savior, the family rejoices despite this earthly loss and look forward to the glorious day when we will be reunited. That will be a family reunion to top ALL reunions like we never enjoyed with her here on earth!
