Mary Boren

July 20, 1941 — May 21, 2024

Mary Hedy "Vickie" Boren, beloved wife, mother, sister, educator, and cherished
member of the community, passed away on May 21st, 2024, at the age of 82.
Born on July 20, of 1941, in Lufkin, Texas, Vickie's passion for music was evident
from a young age. In her high school years at Corsicana High School, she wrote her
first song at the tender age of fourteen and even appeared on a radio program. Her
journey continued at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor in Belton, Texas, where
she thrived as a student. An accomplished performer, Vickie portrayed John the
Beloved in the Easter pageant and was crowned first runner up in the Miss Mary
Hardin Baylor pageant. It was during this time that she met the love of her life,
Johnny Boren, whom she married on September 14, 1963. Their bond remained
unbreakable until Johnny's passing on September 11, 2003.

Vickie, known affectionately to her friends and family as Miss Vickie or to her
students as Mrs. B, never met a stranger. Her warm personality and genuine kindness
endeared her to all who knew her. She shared her talents generously, teaching charm
school in Waco, Texas, and participating avidly in activities such as golf and bridge.
Vickies passion for music never waned, and she often sang alongside her sister,
daughter and dear friend Sharon Murrah.

In addition to her pursuits outside the home, Vickie was a dedicated educator who
touched the lives of countless students under her thirty-year teaching career.
Specializing in Theater, Speech, and English, she mentored students with passion and
dedication. Vickie's influence extended beyond the classroom as she led her Theater
students to state competitions and awards, and enriched the lives of many through her
involvement in the Belton Church of Christ, where she taught Sunday school.
Despite her numerous accomplishments, Vickie's greatest joy was found in her family.
She treasured her husband Johnny and their three children, Steve, Bill, and Laura,
above all else. She also cherished being a GaGa to her grandchildren. She shared a
close bond with her sister Ethel Rae DuBose and her three children, Charles, Darrell,
Kristen, and family, fostering cherished relationships until the very end.
Vickie's legacy of love, laughter, and kindness will forever live on in the hearts of those
who knew her.

Preceded in death by William McDowell and Edna Vinson, Billy Caywood Vinson, and Johnny Boren.
Survived by Steven Boren, Bill Boren, Johhny and Laura Haun, Kade and Hannah Young, Hunter Haun, Luke Boren, Bailee Boren, four grandchildren, Ethel Rae DuBose, Charles and Patricia DuBose, Darell DuBose, Vicki, Kristen DuBose, Torey Taylor, Willow DuBose, Jacod and Joshua DuBose.
