Mason Reed Smith

May 18, 2016 — January 12, 2022

Forever our brave and strong, beautiful boy. ⁣⁣

Mason passed away peacefully at home at 6:27 PM on January 12, 2022, in his loving parent’s arms where he belonged. ⁣⁣

Mason battled Miller- Dieker Syndrome Lissencephaly. He was one of 100,000 precious children born with this rare genetic mutation. Constantly defying odds and writing his own story, Mason was definitely one to leave an unforgettable impression on all those who loved him, knew him, and helped care for him. He always had everyone in awe of how happy and bright he was. He marched to the beat of his own drum, was considered a miracle, and was a true angel here on earth.

Our entire life was Mason. For the past 5 years, our sense of purpose centered around his precious needs. His absence is deeply felt to the core within our home. It was our greatest privilege as parents to advocate and fight for his life, and it was the highest privilege to be trusted with such a special baby boy. ⁣⁣We are eternally grateful for the opportunity we got to spend as a family. We are also thankful and recognize the incredible support we received that made his care possible. From our dedicated and loving nurses, Ms. Erica, Ms. Victoria, and Ms. Venna, that constantly went above and beyond for us day in and day out to our Palliative Care team at Children’s Medical Center Hospital whose knowledge and loving guidance helped us so much, and to Masons Nana, Poppy, and Great Grandmother who would drop whatever they were doing to help.

Mommy, Daddy, Bubba, and Sissy already miss you so much, Mason Reed. We love you so much it hurts. We can’t wait to see you again. Have fun being a kid, you deserve it more than anyone.

Mason is survived by his parents, Justin and Amanda Smith, as well as his big brother, Maddox Smith, his baby sister, Meredith Smith, his Grandparents, Kenneth and Debbie Smith, Grandmother Lisa Norsworthy, Great Grandparents David and Snow Norsworthy, Great Grandparents Bernie and Fran Potter, Great Grandparents Kenneth and Betty Smith, Uncle and Aunt Kenneth and Alicia Smith, Uncle Steven Smith, Uncle Austin Norsworthy, Cousins Dakota and Rylan Smith, and numerous other loving great aunts, great uncles, and cousins. He is preceded in death by his Grandparents Jennifer and Tony Norsworthy. In lieu of flowers, Mason’s family is asking for donations to be sent to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas, where Mason spent many hours receiving treatment and medical care.
