SMITH, MICHAEL ILEY, 60, of Kemp, Texas, passed away October 23, 2003, as a result of injuries sustained from a horse accident on July 31, 2003. He was born September 14, 1943, in Dallas, Texas. During his school years, he received numerous sports awards including the Troy Post Award and was a class favorite at W. W. Samuell High School. He attended Texas A&M on a baseball scholarship and graduated from East Texas State University. Mr. Smith was a long-time employee of Dallas Transit System where he served in several capacities including Assistant General Manager of Operations. He had a passion for horses, was a member of the American Quarter Horse Association, competed in many horse-related events and was owner of Creekview Farm at the time of his death. He is survived by his mother, Lorine Smith, of Garland, Texas, a daughter, Mindy Lucas, and husband Joe of Heath, Texas, a son, Greg Smith, of Denver, Colorado, a sister, Lou Allen, and husband Tom of Garland, Texas and 4 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his father, Iley Smith. He was a wonderful man and will be greatly missed. Services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Monday, Oct. 27, 2003 at New Hope Funeral Home Chapel. Family will recieve friends at the funeral home Monday morning from 9:00AM-11:00AM before the service. Memorials may be made to Methodist Dallas Medical Center, 1441 N.
