Joyce Hammonds

Joyce Hammonds was finally reunited with the love of her life on Thursday, January 27, 2022. Her beloved husband of 68 years, Dick, died in 2021 and Joyce spent the last nine months talking about how she was looking forward to seeing him again in Heaven. For 68 years her whole heart belonged to Dick and with his passing, their separation only lasted nine months. They are now together forever in eternity with their son, Rickey, who they have longed to be reunited with for the past 66 years.

Joyce lived a long, happy life and died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after a short battle with covid pneumonia. Joyce was born on December 2, 1934 in Big Springs, Tx to Mable Statham. She grew up on a farm as one of four children and has worked hard her entire life. She enjoyed a variety of jobs throughout her life but she would tell you being a wife, mother & mawmaw were her favorites.

On July 10, 1952 at the age of 17, she married the love of her life, Richard “Dick” Hammonds and resided in Mesquite to raise their family. She had many passions and loved to travel, but her favorite passions were playing softball and volleyball. She would love to reminisce about her softball days and loved to poke fun at her son because she could hit a ball farther than him.

She was the matriarch of her family and the glue that held them all together. She was the one you knew you could go to for all of the answers and loved doing anything she could for her family. She was an avid reader of the newspaper and you knew when you came over you would leave with a clipping of something she saw that she thought would benefit you. She will be remembered for her fiery spirit that served to strengthen everyone she met.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her son Rickey, her husband Dick and her brothers Billy, Richard and Clay, and her brother-in-law Mike Hammonds. She is survived by her children who inherited her fiery spirit Brenda Hammonds, Randy Hammonds, Carrie Gron and husband Rene, Julia Sirmans and husband Murry; grandchildren Alyssia Trimble and husband Michael, Randall Hammonds and wife Leah, Jodie Kocher, Nicole Brehm and husband Kyle, Ryan Hammonds and wife Molly, Ricky Sirmans and wife Carly, Anthony Sirmans and wife Lindsey, Christine Gron-Prado and husband Berto, Daniel Gron; great-grandchildren Tyler Trimble and wife Taylor, Morgan Phelps and husband Jared, Megan Kocher, Jacob Harris, Alyssa Hammonds, Courtney Hammonds, Addyson Hammonds, Lexi Topping, Dylan Trimble, Landon Brehm, Olivia Brehm, Beau Hammonds, Hayes Hammonds Wyatt Sirmans, Calan Sirmans, Angelina Gonzales, Kiko Gonzales, Gio Gonzales; great-great grandchild Lillie Joyce; sister Linda Voyles and husband Fred and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale. Visitation will be Friday, February 4 from 7-8 pm. Funeral service will be Saturday, February 5th at 3 pm, followed by burial at Rylie Cemetery, Dallas Tx. Pallbearers will be Randall Hammonds, Ryan Hammonds, Ricky Sirmans, Michael Trimble, Tyler Trimble, Jacob Harris and Rene Gron.
