Paul Michael Pruett

January 15, 1947 - October 12, 2026

Beloved uncle and brother Paul Michael Pruett, 79, passed away unexpectedly on October 12, 2026, in Mesquite, Texas. Born in Hawaii, Paul grew up in El Cajon, California, working on his father's chicken ranch alongside his 16 siblings. He shared his life with his wife, Betty Pruett (née Waller), who preceded him in death in 2024.

Though Paul did not have children of his own, he became a second father to many of his nieces and nephews, some of whom lived with him over the years. He had an enormous heart and was always ready to help anyone who crossed his path. A natural tinkerer, Paul loved updating his home in Sugar Land, Texas, and could always find a new project to tackle around the house. When he was not busy with home improvements, his favorite pastime was watching baseball, especially his beloved Houston Astros. He also had a soft spot for dogs, particularly Chihuahuas, and gave a loving home to several throughout his life. He will be deeply missed by his large extended family across Texas, Arkansas, and California.

Paul is survived by his siblings Bernadette Lantinga (Jerry), Peter Pruett (Kerry), Mary Garcia (Elias), Leo Pruett (Antoinette), Chuck Pruett (Cindy), and Mike Pruett.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Virginia and John Pruett, as well as his siblings Frank Pruett, Theresa Leuker, Margaret Campbell, Joe Pruett, Barney Pruett, Tom Pruett, Cathy Couey, Gemma Pruett, Michelle Pavao, and Tim Pruett.

Services and interment will take place at New Hope Funeral Home and Memorial Gardens on Thursday, October 22. The schedule is as follows:

  • 10:00 AM: Viewing open to all
    11:00 AM: Funeral service
