Listen to Obituary

Pedro (Pete) Ruben Tamez, born on May 3, 1938, in Lasara, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 1, 2026. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who knew him. Pedro spent much of his life as an auto mechanic at Bill King Brake-O, where his love for working on cars kept him engaged and connected with the community.

Pedro cherished his time spent with family and friends, particularly while watching football and baseball, and attending church services. After retiring, he found joy in reading his Bible and watching programs featuring Jimmy Swaggart and similar messages. Even as his vision faded, Pedro remained determined to share his faith in Jesus. He loved listening to praise and worship music with his wife, Viola, and engaging in heartfelt conversations about spirituality with anyone willing to listen.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Viola Tamez, and their six children: Manuel, Pete, Gilbert, Tina, Steven and Jeannie, along with his daughters-in-law and many cherished grandchildren and great grandchildren. Pedro is also remembered by his surviving sister, Leonor Vallery, of San Antonio, TX. His greatest achievement, he often said, was being a dedicated provider for his family; he would go above and beyond, even moving to new cities or taking on new jobs, to ensure their needs were met.

A come-and-go memorial visitation will take place at New Hope Funeral Home in Stateroom A on October 10, 2026, from 1pm to 3pm. Pedro's legacy of love, faith, and hard work will live on in the hearts of those who were lucky enough to know him.

Pedro was preceded in death by his parents, Gilberto and Paula Tamez, siblings, Gilbert, Guadalupe, Tomasa, Lydia, Leonor, Manuel, and Gloria and his son-in-law, William Dittman.
