Robert Monk

July 3, 1944 — December 11, 2023

Robert Dellis Monk, 79, loving husband, father, and grandfather, passed into the arms of Jesus on Monday, December 11. He was born in 1944 to Lester (P-John) and Dalsie Monk, and given that his birthday was July 3, he liked to joke that he was one day older than the United States. Known as Dellis through high school, Robert during his military years, and Bob ever since, he grew up in the tiny West Texas town of Quitaque, TX. He excelled at basketball and track in high school, then attended Clarendon Junior College for his Associate Degree. Bob joined the U. S. Army in 1964 and served one tour of duty in Vietnam, with an Honorable Discharge in 1970. After the Army, he met and married Barbara Brand of Cleburne, TX and pursued a career in IT, which led him to Reese Air Force Base in Lubbock, then Texas Tech University, and finally back to Dallas where he worked at Central & Southwest, EDS, and Worldcom.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, sister Betty and her husband Laurie Johnson, and sister-in-law Sue Monk. He is survived by his wife and three sons - Ret. Lt. Col. Robert B. Monk (Mira); Dennis P. Monk (Debbie); and Scott R. Monk (Erin) - and five grandchildren, Jaden, Alicia, Whitley, Kinsler and Shiloh Monk; his brother Edward Monk; niece Tracey Johnson Moore (Tim); and numerous cousins.

Entertainment for Bob included fishing, dominoes, dancing with his wife, and later, serving in the church and crossword puzzles. He loved old-time country music.
