Rudy R. Perez

October 25, 1955 — January 17, 2022

Rudy was born October 25th 1955, in Bryan, Tx to Lupe Reyes Perez and Johnny Perez. Rudy was proceeded in death by his grandparents Pedro and Felipa Reyes and his parents Lupe Reyes Perez and Johnny Perez. He married his high school sweetheart, Mary Lou Perez and they were happily married with 46 years of love and devotion that radiated.

Rudy attended Richland College and was an original Thunderduck; while in attendance he won three national titles and a United States Greco Roman World Federation Championship in 1974.

Rudy was someone with a huge heart, a family man, and role model to anyone that came across his life. Rudy loved telling jokes and enjoyed hearing them as well; especially laughing way before the punchline was his signature move. He also had an affinity for C-10 Chevy pick up trucks.

Rudy and Mary had a passion for their faith that was exhibited by their years of teaching catholic faith formation and added fifteen godchildren to their family.

Rudy enjoyed watching the Dallas Cowboys football games, especially with his mother, Lupe. He would call her in Bryan and they would both be rooting or yelling at the tv. His most memorable moments were attending his children’s sporting events; he was the loudest person out there. With this passion, Rudy built a hockey club in Mesquite for many young teens, the Mesquite Ice Bandits. He also loved the annual Perez Crawfish Boils, midweek and weekend trips to the Casino with Mary, Josie, Jessie, Luis and Zani; not to mention being in charge of the Lotto Club with his UPS driver friends.

Rudy retired from UPS December 27th 2019 with 34 years of service and twenty-five years of safe driving. While on his UPS route, Rudy received The Service of Excellence for saving a customer from a burning house. He never met a stranger, especially on his route; his customers didn’t look at Rudy as just a driver, but a friend and family member.

Anyone who knew Rudy, knew he was the most loving husband, father, and grandfather a family could ask for. He is survived by Mary Perez his wife, godmother Juanita Harrington, and his children, Adrienne & Manny Flores, Rudi & Krista McKay, Pete & Kaylee Perez. His grandchildren, Collin, Malerie, True-Tristan, Corbin, Audrey, Adelina, Aiden & Felicity. His sisters and brothers, Joann Guerra, Patricia Castleberry, Paula Gaitan, Johnny Allen Duron, John Paul Perez, and Sonia Montoya. His aunts and uncles, Alex Reyes, Pete Ryes Jr., Samuel Reyes, Alice Reyes, Raymond Perez, Lupe Salazar, Lupe Garcia, & Jesse Perez; including a litany of nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
