Ruth Janell Player

January 8, 1939 — November 21, 2020

Ruth Janell Player, 81, passed from this life on November 21, 2020 at Dallas Regional Hospital. A family visitation will be at Forbis Cemetery in Emory, TX, with a family graveside service following. Ruth was born on the 8th day of January 1939 to W.T. and Mayme Burns. She was the oldest child and quickly became a big sister to her brother, Ray and sister, Barbara.

Ruth met the man of her dreams, John Robert Player, at the State Fair Of Texas in 1958. John was performing with the Drum and Bugle Corp and Ruth was watching the performance. After a couple of meetings, John knew she was the ONE and quickly asked her to marry him, to which she said yes. Three months later, and after only 5 to 6 face to face visits, they were married. Then their lives were blessed with 3 children: Frances Janell, Kenneth Ray and Karen Kay.

John and Ruth spent time in several places, but made Mesquite and Seagoville their home for the majority of their years together. They have been active members at Seagoville Church of Christ. Ruth loved spending time with ladies there and building friendships. Throughout the years, Ruth and John were blessed with 5 grandchildren: Natalie, Brad, Miranda, Mallory, and Samantha. She loved them with every ounce of her being, and would do anything for them. They spent many summers and holidays around her kitchen table with homecooked meals and lots of love. Ruth was also very blessed with 6 great-grandchildren: Logan, Jack, Charlotte, Madelyn, Anna and Iver. If there was a baby to hold, you could find them in Nana's lap.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, John Player; daughter Frances Cumberland (husband - Wayne); son Kenneth Player (wife - Kay); daughter Karen Evans (husband - Brian); five grandchildren Natalie Penney (husband - Shannon); Brad Hensley; Miranda Thompson (husband - Joe); Mallory Arvo (husband - Ryan) and Samantha Snook (husband - John).

We will love and miss our sweet Wife, Mom, Nana and Friend forever.
