Sarah Margaret Mitchell

Sarah "Sally" Margaret (Foltz) Mitchell was born on September 8, 1947, in Dallas, Texas, and went home to be with the Lord on Friday, July 17, 2026, while surrounded by her loving family. Sally is survived by her faithful husband of 54 years, Bobby Mitchell. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother whose life was defined by her servant's heart, gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and thoughtful speech-qualities admired by everyone who knew her.

In her early years, Sally grew up near White Rock Lake with her parents, Ralph and Margaret Foltz, and her two brothers, John and Joe. Her family was known for their post-World War II frugality and their knack for fixing just about anything. After graduating from SMU, she married Bobby, a gifted pianist who later joined the United States Air Force. Together they moved to Wichita Falls, where Bobby served and Sally was a speech pathologist in an elementary school. Later, they settled in Mesquite, Texas, where she and Bobby raised their two daughters, Michelle and Joanna, and became faithful longtime members of First Baptist Church of Mesquite. Their years in Mesquite brought wonderful family memories and lifelong friendships through the love, generosity, and care they freely gave to others.

Sally devoted her career to helping children overcome speech challenges through her work in the public school system. Most of her years were spent at Shands Elementary in Mesquite, where she earned the respect of her colleagues and worked tirelessly to give her students a voice. They put on plays, wrote books, and gained confidence with her lessons. Beyond her career and raising her own children, she lovingly cared for the children of neighbors and friends by faithfully volunteering in the children's and youth ministries at First Baptist Church of Mesquite.

Sally was intelligent, well prepared, disciplined, and intentional. She held strong moral convictions and was deeply passionate about serving others. In her home, her husband and daughters always knew they were well loved. She was soft-spoken, gracious, and principled. She listened intently and treasured quality time, often around a game of Scrabble, where she delighted in dominating those she loved.

As retirement approached in 2012, Bobby and Sally downsize and sold the home they had shared for 36 years and moved to North Dallas to be closer to their daughters and grandchildren. There they joined Hunters Glen Baptist Church, where they served with a ministry helping immigrants prepare for U.S. citizenship. Through this ministry, students learned conversational English and the knowledge of U.S. government required to pass the citizenship test, but most importantly, they encountered the hope of the Gospel and the good news of Jesus' love and grace. Sally found great joy in welcoming people from around the world, investing in their lives, and pointing them toward Christ.

Sally was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Margaret Foltz, and her brother, John. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bobby; her daughters, Michelle and Joanna; her sons-in-law, Jason and Jeff; and her eight grandchildren: Evan and Emilia Pounds; and Renee, Vivian, Kate, James, Elliott, and Martin Reed; her brother, Joe; her cousin, Earle Ann Forbes; and her nephews and nieces: Jen, Joel, Nicole, and Clayton. All of them witnessed firsthand the depth of her love, service, and sacrifice for the One with whom she now dwells.

Sally's legacy lives on in the faith she modeled, the family she cherished, and the countless lives she quietly touched through a lifetime of humility, compassion, and faithful service to Christ. She will be greatly missed and forever admired.
