Thelma Faye Gilbert

July 17, 1929 — February 10, 2021

Thelma Faye Gilbert, Age 91, passed away peacefully and gracefully on February 10, 2021 at 1:00 a.m. at her home in Mesquite, Texas.  Thelma was born July 17th of 1929 in Emory, Texas to Billy and Modena Latham, along with her fraternal twin brother, Elmer Ray.  Three sisters then joined the happy family:  Patsy Fern, Dixie Lee and Loretta.

She married Morris A. “Cotton” Gilbert, her partner in life, on April 12, 1947. A wonderful 62 years of marriage.  Thelma and Cotton made a home in Mesquite since 1949, moving to “The Old Lawson Homestead” in 1968.  She was able to depart this life within the comfort of her home, and in the presence of family.

Thelma enjoyed many friends and activities including very impressive needlepoint projects, crocheting, and quilting.  Her soul was fed with needle and thread.  Everyone enjoyed her creativity and marveled at her expertise and beautiful work.

Thelma was preceded in death by her husband, Cotton on October 7, 2009; her son Robby on August 9, 2010; and daughter Dottie on September 9, 2011.  She leaves behind her son Billy and his wife Missy and a host of family and friends who love and will miss her very much.   We know she is no longer in pain, and we know she has been welcomed with much joy in her new home in heaven.
