Urcille Thelma Newton Bovell (Mimi), one of five siblings, was born on May 27, 1933, to Adeline Goddard, in Barbados.
She attended the Anglican church and was confirmed at age 14. She was baptized into the Seventh-day Adventist church at age 18. She became the Adventist Youth leader at age 22. One year later, she emigrated to England for training as a nurse. She married Peter Bovell at age 24. Three children followed.
She emigrated to the U.S. at age 35 and worked as a registered nurse. Twelve years later she attended C.W. Post college where she received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She did this while holding office in her church, working full-time and raising her children. She moved to Texas in 1982 and continued to work as a registered nurse. She attended UTA for one and a half semesters with the intention of obtaining a Master of Nursing degree but she decided that she would pursue a different course - attendance at a specialized program for women's health nurse practitioners at UT Southwestern. She worked as a nurse practitioner until 1998 when she retired.
Churches she has attended include- Bronx SDA Church, North Bronx SDA Church, Dallas First Church, Garland Faith Community Church, Mesquite SDA Church. She has served in the capacity of Youth leader, Pathfinder leader, Sabbath School teacher-children's division, Treasurer and Head deaconess.
She was a woman of few words, but when she spoke, wisdom came from her lips. Her patients loved her caring nature and would wait several minutes or hours to see her rather than see a different provider. Her church members knew her as a dedicated, dependable and meek lady.
She leaves the following with cherished memories of her life:
Children-Dawn Allison; Karen Hylton (Lance); Robert Bovell (Joyce)
Grandchildren-Charles-Thomas Cooke (Bea), Fatima aka Falaq, Brittny (Kirk), Lauren, Trey, Christina (Rafael)
Great-grands-Christian, Jaxon, Carter, Clarisse
Siblngs-Merganthy Newton, Jannetta Newton, Horace Goddard, Elijah Goddard
Extended family-Patrick Bell, Amoo-Asante and family, Yoland Washington, and Earl Dabney
Many adoring nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends. Our dear Mimi passed away peacefully on December 25, 2025, in her home surrounded by her loving family. She was a devoted wife, mother, and caregiver throughout her life. She will be rewarded for her faithfulness when Jesus comes to receive His own. Urcille passes on her legacy of excellence and love to her children and family.
