Vera Doris Calkins

Vera (Doris) Calkins, 88, passed away on April 26, 2022, in [Mesquite, TX]. Doris was born on February 10, 1934 in Abilene, TX, to Marvin Joseph Fincher and Mattie Vera Fincher. She was retired from the La Mesa/Spring Valley CA School District. Doris married Garth James Calkins on [Feb 28, 1981] in San Diego, CA. Doris was best known for [her beautiful smile, funny sense of humor, tea parties & playing cards w/the girls, dancing, international travel & was a member of the "Red Hatters". Member of The La Mesa CA Lions' Club where she served as President 2007-2008. Also received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for "Dedicated Humanitarian Services" from the Lions Club International Foundation. She also participated in the Elks Club. Doris is survived by Daughter - Vicki (Jan) Broadhead. Son - William Randal (Bill) Ray. Grandchildren - Zachary Crockett, Tonya Chefchis, Austin Ray, Chelsea Ray, Brooke Ray. Great Grandchildren - Bain Broadhead, Ashlyn Ray, Jameson Ray & Brooklyn Ray Doris is preceded in death by Joseph M Fincher - father, Mattie V Fincher - mother, Garth James Calkins - spouse, Sons Ralph David Crockett, Mark Richard Crockett.
