Listen to Obituary

Wolfgang was born on November 19, 1945 in a town called Übach-Palenberg in the Heinsberg district of North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany, which is close to Städte Region of Aachen. He was the only son of Fritz and Martha Zimmermann. He had two older sisters, Milly and Ingrad who have since passed away. Following the 2nd World War, his mother was his driving force for him to pursue his higher education.

Wolfgang had a strong passion for music, especially during The Beatles era, reading and especially loved reading about Cowboys and Indians. He was also very intrigued by the Western way of life including favorite cuisines of steak and beans.

He met, Marlene, his wife of almost 59 years on a dance floor in the same town where he grew up. They were married on August 26, 1966 in their hometown. Shortly thereafter, their daughter Alice was born, followed by their son, Mark. Wolfgang briefly served in the German Army and then began working as an Engineer for a German company, where he traveled all over the world, to include Europe and South America.

While traveling, Wolfgang was approached about relocating to the United States to a small town of Marshall, Texas where he accepted an Engineering position and purchased his first small dream home. This was a great opportunity for Wolfgang, as his dream was to make a better life for his family. While employed at this firm in 1974, a Texas Senator assisted Wolfgang in acquiring his green card.

Approximately 4 years later, Wolfgang was considering relocating to San Antonio, Texas for a promotion. However, the owner of Daltile in Dallas, Texas got word of this and asked Wolfgang to stop by to have a discussion regarding a possible position. And the rest is history, as Wolfgang was employed with Daltile for the rest of his career of approximately 35 years, until his retirement at the age of 70. Wolfgang deeply appreciated and cherished the many friendships and business relationships that he had worldwide with Daltile and he and his family consider them a second family.

Upon retirement, Wolfgang began fulfilling his and Marlene's dream of leisurely traveling the world, enjoying watching soccer and hanging out by the pool and grill. Since retirement, they traveled to most of Europe, Alaska, The Caribbean, Hawaii and many other beautiful places within the United States. Wolfgang also had upcoming trips scheduled to Japan, Portugal and Spain, which we are most certain he thought of often until his passing.

Wolfgang passed away on May 27, 2025 and will be dearly missed by his family, especially the love of his life, Marlene. Wolfgang was survived by his daughter, Alice; his son, Mark; his beloved granddaughter, Brittany, one niece and two nephews. He will also be greatly missed by many friends, longtime neighbors Randy and Sherry Crenshaw and a long list of others.
