Arnold Lavan Dowdy Jr.

December 28, 1949 — January 3, 2021

With profound sadness, we announce the passing of Arnold Lavan Dowdy, Jr., our loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend on December 3, 2021.

Born in Fort Hood, Texas, on December 28, 1949, he served in the 9th Infantry at Vietnam from 1966-1969, re-enlisted as Military Police in 1969, and discharged in 1975 as a Sergeant in the United States Army.

Over the years, he had many occupations and hobbies.  He served as a police officer, detective, traffic manager, Vice President in sales, and retired as a Music Man to bring joy and comfort to the elderly.  His hobbies included computer gaming, flying, singing, playing guitar, and spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Ruby Mae Harcrow Dowdy; his sister, Loretta Rose Schutza Vallance; his stepmother, Darthie Dowdy; and his father, Arnold Lavan Dowdy, Sr.

He is survived by his wife, Cindy Dowdy; his son, Sammy Dowdy and wife Sheri; his oldest daughter, Amanda Suzuki and husband Takahiro; his middle daughter, Jamie Moore; his youngest daughter, Amy Williams.  His grandchildren include Rebekah Bryant, Samuel Dowdy, Gabriel Williams, Connor Dowdy, Emma Williams, Abigail Williams, and Mason Suzuki.

The family will receive friends and family for a viewing only on Tuesday, January 12, 2021, from 6pm-8pm at New Hope Funeral Home in Sunnyvale, Texas.  The burial will be January 14, 2021, at 10:15 am at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery. 

A Memorial Service will be held at Seagoville Road Baptist Church at a later date to be announced soon.
