HARWELL, Dr. Gwyn Evelle Hargis, 81, of Irving and Forney, TX. died Thursday June 28, 2007 at a local hospice facility. Funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church of Forney at 2PM Saturday June 30, 2007. Dr. Harwell was born November 29, 1925 in Many, Louisiana.She graduated Waskom High School in 1942.She attended Tulane University then LSU Medical School in New Orleans, Louisiana, where she earned her Doctor of Medicine in 1949. In June of 1946, she married David Bryan Harwell.They lived in Longview, Texas and Irving, Texas, then moved to Forney in 2002. Bryan survives Gwyn.Dr. Harwell practiced medicine in Longview, Texas and Henderson Hospital until 1975, when she joined Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Texas as Medical Director.After retiring from the Blue Cross. She worked at Sweetwater Health full time then continued to work part time in the health insurance industry until she was 80. Gwyn was an active member of the First United Methodist Church of Forney.She was past Governor of Zonta International, and also held several awards in the medical field, including a lifetime achievement award from the Texas Society of Pathologists. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, she has four surviving sons; David Bryan Jr., John Cecil, Jackson Lovell andTimothy Goode; their wives, Jean, Bridget, and Shari and her four grandchildren; Kendall, Killian Jackson (II) and Emily.She has so many friend that loved her as well ? too many to count. Donations to the Zonta International scholarship fund in her honor will be gratefully accepted.
