About Us

New Hope Funeral Home had its initial groundbreaking in 2001 and opened for business in 2002 in Sunnyvale, Texas. The name New Hope was chosen to both honor the history of the area, and to signify the optimistic beginning of a new journey or circumstances in one’s life.

Historically, the Town of Sunnyvale has its roots from the settlement days of Texas. When Texas became a part of the United States in 1845, homesteaders settled in the hamlet of Long Creek. As more people arrived, the hamlets of Tripp, Hatterville and New Hope sprung up nearby. In 1885 the hamlet of New Hope became the center of rural commerce in the area when the first store in the area opened there. It eventually became the most prosperous of the four hamlets as it soon had many shops and stores and even a newspaper, The New Hope News. This all ended in 1921 when a large storm blew through the town. Then, until the early 1950’s, the remaining town of New Hope remained stagnant with no new developments until 1953 when the four hamlets merged together to form the town of Sunnyvale.

The idea for building a funeral home and opening New Hope was originally established in August 1998 by Bill and Steve Ewing, along with Jay Vandiver and Cecil Mackey with a land purchase of acreage off of Highway 80 east and Collins Road exit. A beautiful 12,000 sq. ft. full-service funeral facility was built to serve not only Sunnyvale, Mesquite, Forney, Garland, Terrell, Rowlett, Rockwall, Balch Springs, Seagoville, Wylie, Sachse, and Lancaster, but the surrounding counties of Dallas, Kaufman and Rockwall.  In 2004, New Hope Funeral Home purchased more acreage adjacent to Long Creek Cemetery, which had its first recorded burial in 1855 and was certified from the Texas Historical Commission as a Historic Texas Cemetery. With this land acquisition, New Hope Funeral Home opened and dedicated New Hope Cemetery, also doing business as New Hope Memorial Gardens. Since 2004, New Hope offers complete funeral and memorial services, cremations, pre-arranged services as well as offering a Cemetery for both traditional burials, cremation burials and a cremation columbarium option. An experienced staff of highly skilled and compassionate funeral directors, funeral assistants and funeral ambassadors is available to help families during difficult times, as well as helping plan funerals in advance, or at the time of need. The original founders, the Ewing family, still own and manage New Hope and are proud of the fact that since its inception, New Hope is still locally owned rather than being managed by a large corporation.
